Yorkshire and Humber communities talking climate

Uncategorized Friday 29 May 2026

Back in March, the Yorkshire and Humber Climate Commission (YHCC) and YPIP facilitated an online Share&Learn lunch session on “talking climate” for community groups across the region.

The session started off with a lively introduction to Talking Climate, a new and practical guide co-produced by YHCC and ADEPT to help organisations frame climate change messages that resonate with people’s everyday lives. Check out the presentation slides from this section of the meeting.

From there, participants heard inspiring examples from The Leap, who shared how they’re engaging people in climate actions across Bradford. Through community-led projects like transforming dumping sites into creative landmarks, commissioning sculptures shaped by local voices, and developing community champions, The Leap showed how listening first leads to stronger engagement and lasting change.

The Leap work and future plans, including the Dream-Act-Inspire Programme, as well as the “Talking Climate” guide prompted rich discussions among attendees about how the approaches could be embedded into their own work, leaving the group energised and full of ideas. Check out The Leap’s presentation slides here.

The next YHCC/YPIP Share&Learn session for community climate action is on Tuesday 2 June (1-2pm) and will be exploring how local governments and community groups can co-create, co-manage and co-own public resources and assets together.

Participating community groups will be hearing about how public-civic partnerships can support the Leeds Ambitions and learn from each other about experiences of collaborating with local government.

Send an email to [email protected] if you would like to attend this session or be a part of Share&Learn going forward, specifying your group and area of activity.
