YPIP brings together academia, policy makers, and communities to explore evidence-based decision making through place-based initiatives

Good Work: Evidence and Policy Review

Uncategorized Tuesday 18 November 2025

Our colleagues Rich Crisp, Belen Martinez, and Sarah Molton from Sheffield Hallam University, and Alex Nunn from University of Manchester have produced an evidence and policy review for their ‘Good Work and Better Business’ work package.

This evidence and policy review explores what ‘Good Work’ means, why it matters to individuals, businesses and society, and how it is distributed across Yorkshire and the Humber.

The review brings together academic research, government data, and policy insights to examine opportunities and barriers to good work, and the policy levers that exist locally to promote good work.

The review forms part of wider research the team are undertaking to look at:

  • opportunities for promoting good in the social care sector;
  • the role of business support services in supporting inclusive business practices;
  • and how underrepresented groups and communities can shape and benefit from good work initiatives.

Together this work will highlight practical ways to develop policy and business practices that improve the quality of work and deliver more inclusive, sustainable outcomes for people and businesses across the region.

The evidence and policy review has been produced in two formats:
